Guidelines for Library Users
In order to ensure that the library is a welcoming and productive environment for all, we ask that all users follow these rules:
- Be respectful of other users and Library staff members.
- Avoid bringing food or drinks into the library. Food and beverages are strictly prohibited inside the library.
- Set your mobile phone to silent mode. Do not use any electronic devices in a disruptive manner.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the library.
- Treat all library materials and resources with special care to prevent damage.
- Return library materials on time.
- Pay fines for damaged or overdue materials.
- Kindly keep noise levels to a minimum and respect others' space.
General Rules for Library Users
The rules for borrowing and using library resources are outlined to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
Membership Rule
- All IUT students, faculty members, and staff with valid IDs are authorized library members.
Borrowing Rules
- Borrowing is possible during office hours from 08: 30 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Borrowing limits are as follows:
Faculty Members
15 books for one semester
Part-time/Visiting Faculty Members
03 books for one semester
Staff Members
03 books for one semester
Master's/PhD Students
06 books for one semester
Undergraduate Students
06 books for one semester
Returning Resources
- All borrowed books must be returned to avoid any overdue fine within the due date during office hours from 08: 30 AM to 4:00 PM.
Renewing Books
- Borrowers can request to renew their books as long as nobody else has requested to hold them.
- Come to the Circulation and Information Desk at the Library with the books for renewal before the returning date.
Lost Books
- If you lose a book, inform the Circulation Desk immediately.
- You'll need to replace the lost book with the same edition or follow the replacement process of the library.
Policy of Lost Book
- Any user is responsible for the borrowed books/resources.
- Loss of any book must be immediately reported to the library Circulation and Information Desk.
- If the borrowed item(s) is/are not returned within a semester, the item(s) will be considered as lost.
- Book(s) lost by the borrower must-
- Replace the lost book with a new copy of the same item, or, the latest edition of the same item. OR,
- Replace by filling out the lost book(s) form in accordance with the replacement process of the library and pay a replacement cost of two times the current market price of the borrowed Book(s).
Overdue Fines
If any user fails to submit the borrowed books on or before the due date, a fine of Tk. 5.00 per day per book will be calculated.
The fine amount will be deducted from the pocket allowance or caution money.
The Library will send a notification to the particular student regarding overdue fines.
Faculty & Staff Renewal
The permanent Faculty and Staff members of IUT may renew the borrowed books before the due date by communicating with the library officials.
Library Clearance
- Graduating students, or, Faculty Members going for Study Leave, or, staff Members nearing the end of their service, must obtain library clearance by using the following procedure:
*For graduating students, submit your thesis according to the requirements.
Non-Loanable Resources
Please note that journals, magazines, newspapers, and Reference Collections including theses are not available for borrowing.
Disciplinary Action
Users who violate the library policy or rules may be asked to leave the library or may be banned from the library for a period of time. Failure to follow these rules may lead to temporary suspension of borrowing privileges or other disciplinary measures. In serious cases, users may be reported as per the rule of IUT.
Reporting Problems
If you see someone violating the library policy or rules, please report it to a library staff member. We appreciate your help in keeping the library a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
