Frequent Asked Questions(FAQ)

1. Are reading rooms fully air-conditioned?
Answer: Yes, reading rooms are fully air conditioned.

2. Are there different study zones (e.g., group study zones, single study zones etc.)?
Answer: Yes library has different study zones such as reading rooms, engineering village, e-resource centre, hall area etc. 

3.How many seating arrangement are there for students at a time?
Answer: 229 (Main Hall Room area:62, Reading room 48, DLT Room: 52, Executive Lounge 23, e-resources centre: 23, Engineering Village: 16, and Souvenir Shop 05)

4.Are circulation services fully automated?
Answer: Yes, the library circulation system is automated.

5. Is there a newspaper corner?
Answer: We subscribe to 13 national dailies which are kept in the particular corner for study.thing

6. Are there book borrowing facilities?
Answer: yes, an undergraduate student can borrow 5 text books for a semester, in terms of graduate students the number of books is 07.

7.Is there high-speed internet connection?
Answer: Yes, the library has 36 computer terminals, out of 36, 18 computers are directly used by the user, rest 18 monitors may be connected through laptop, 02 for Online Access public access catalog search. Besides, 09 computers have been kept in the e-resource centre. All said computers have high speed net facilities. However, Wi Fi facilities are available around the library.

8. Are there downloading facilities for eBooks?
Answer: Yes, Wiley online books (3500) titles can be downloaded and no username and password is required inside the campus.

9.Is there a library catalogue search option online (is there a website?)?
Answer: Yes, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) can be searched through its. library website. IUT Library catalogue/book database can be searched through the net from anywhere. Access link: Library Book Catalogue

10.What system is used for handling library processes such as acquisitions, cataloguing, serials control, circulation control, bibliographic control, patron control, report generation (record keeping) etc.
Answer: For cataloguing library follows Anglo- American Cataloguing Rules(ACCR-2) and Marc-21 (Online Cataloguing),Circulation, Patron Management, bibliographic control and report generation, library follows Integrated Library Management System(ILMS) koha open source. 

11. Is there any institutional repository to preserve and disseminate thesis report, dissertation reports, e-book etc.?
Answer: Yes, already 850 thesis of IUT in both undergraduate and Graduate level has been uploaded. IUT repository is registered through Open DOAR. IUT repository link: ​IUT Institutional Repository

12. Describe features on the webpage of the library (e.g., searching of e-resources, online catalogues, online book renewal, remote access to e-resources, etc.)
Answer: Online search, Online Catalogue, Institutional Repository etc are available.Indeed social media connectivity, new arrivals list, guidelines are included. Present Link of library Website http://library.iutoic-dhaka.edu

13. How many servers are installed in the Library?
Answer: Two dedicated servers. One is for a koha and website and another one is for an Institutional Repository (DSpace) server.

14. How many computers are available for (i) providing services, (ii) documentation, (iii) use for day-to-day activities by library staff?
Answer: Eighteen Computers for users, two for OPAC terminal, one for circulation control, one for repository work, nine for e-resources access, one for online cataloguing and card printing, and three for administrative works.

15. What security facilities are available in the library? How many security cameras are there?
Answer: At the entrance, there is a check post and one person is there for checking. Around 30 CCTV cameras are on operation covering all the areas of the library.

16.How many computers are available for students/other users to use? Are there any computers especially for searching library catalogue/ renewing books?
Answer: Eighteen Computers for users, two for OPAC termina 02 computers for OPAC terminal, nine for e-resources access.

17.Are there any faculty corner/ special services for faculty members?
Answer: Library has a pool view Executive Lounge where faculty members can sit together. It has 23 sitting capacities at a time.

18. What is the total area (in square feet) of the Library, and what are the different rooms (e.g., reading room, study room, office etc.)?
Answer: Total area is around 1300 sq. meter (~14000 sq. feet). DLT Room, Executive Lounge, Student Reading Room, Engineering Village (Reference Section), E-Resources Section, Main Hall Area, Confined sections, Archives and Documentation Section, Processing Section.

19. What are the opening and closing hours of the Library on each day? Is it closed on any day in the week?
Answer:
Regular Service time: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Monday to Friday).
Reading Room: Monday to Sunday: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM (Upto midnight 12:00 AM during examination period).
