1978 - 1986
Foundation & Early Years
Islamic University of Technology was established in 1978 as Islamic Center for Technical, Vocational Training and Research (ICTVTR), a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The IUT Library was established after the inception of academic activities in 1986.

1988
Official Inauguration
ICTVTR was formally inaugurated by H.M. Ershad, the then president of People's Republic of Bangladesh on July 14, 1988. The library began serving as the knowledge hub for students from OIC member states.

Early 2000s
Modern Infrastructure Development
The Library was housed on the first floor of the Library/Cafeteria Building designed by Turkish architect Mehmet Doruk Pamir beside a beautiful water pool, creating an aesthetic and conducive learning environment with 1300 sq. meters floor area.

2010s
Digital Transformation Era
Implementation of Integrated Library Management System "Koha" with Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC-21), transforming traditional library services into automated web-based information management. The library gained international connectivity through IFLA and IATUL memberships.

Comprehensive Digital Services
Subscribed to 33,470 electronic resources through LiCOB and UGC Digital Library memberships. Established 36 computer workstations, e-Resource section with 9 computers, Distance Learning Theatre with 48 seating capacity, and Executive Lounge for faculty members, creating a modern hybrid learning environment.

Present Day
Hub of Excellence
Today, IUT Library houses 37,000+ printed books with 8,145 titles, shelf space for 52,000 books, serves 229+ simultaneous users across different study zones, and operates with 10 full-time expert personnel. The library provides advanced services including Turnitin, Grammarly Premium, and maintains the IUT Institutional Repository while continuing guided campus tours.
